On August 8th, a burst of flame ignited from a gas leak during routine maintenance work on the delayed coker at Pemex’s Cuidad Madero refinery. The unit was out of service at the time of the accident and did not suffer any material damage. To date, three of the twelve hospitalized workers have died. Further details have not been released.
This is at least the forth accident at the Ciudad Madero refinery this year. Two weeks ago, a fire at a gasoline storage tank injured twenty-three workers.
