Flint Hills Resources Alaska LLC plans to cease crude oil processing at its 85,000 b/d North Pole refinery by June 2014. The closure stems from “challenging economics”, rising crude prices, and the enormous cost of cleaning up the soil and groundwater from Sulfolane contamination.
